Eco/Sustainable Building Projects

Fergus Collins has a special interest in using sustainable construction methods and developing buildings that are eco friendly. The Fergus Collins Construction team built Apartments at ‘The Cloughjordan Eco Village’ (designed by Miles Sampson Architect) as well as dwelling homes at the Eco Village (designed by Gaïa Ecotecture).

This village is an on-going project to create an eco-village community with commitments to ecological, social and economic sustainability. Developed on 67 acres (270,000 m2) of farmland bordering Cloughjordan, Tipperary. The first residents moved into their homes in the eco-village in December 2009.
Built of locally-sourced materials the buildings are certified passive house timber frame, prefabricated offsite. A 500m2 array of solar water heating panels supplies hot water for the district heating system.

The Cloughjordan Eco Village has been identified as one of the leading European projects proving a low-carbon future. The EU-funded academic consortium 'MILESECURE-2050 project' examined over 1,700 European low-energy projects in 19 countries with ‘the Eco Village’ Cloughjordan ranking in the top 10 of these projects.
